Our Supplier Landscape

Our Supplier Landscape

The sustainable development practices of
China Tobacco's industrial production

Encourage the use of low-aluminum eco-friendly packaging materials in production

Discharge production wastewater centrally into factory treatment systems

Utilize cold light source (LED) lighting systems instead of incandescent bulbs

Operate new energy-powered transport systems in workshops

Process post-production tobacco waste through sorting, crushing and baling before

transferring to certified third-party recyclers

The sustainable development practices of
China Tobacco's agricultural production

Establish an intelligent baking demonstration system by introducing artificial intelligence and Internet of Things (IoT) technologies

Conduct tobacco-growing soil testing and supplement the tobacco soil database

Promote mechanical deep application and topdressing techniques to reduce fertilizer nutrient volatilization and leaching

Utilize high-efficiency water-saving irrigation technologies, such as drip irrigation fertilization, to advance integrated water and fertilizer application

Encourage the recycling of used plastic mulch films and promote biodegradable mulch films

Advance the implementation of the Sustainable Tobacco Program (STP)

The sustainable development practices of
CBT and the contracted farmers in Brazil

We conduct regular visits to contracted farmers in Brazil every 5-6 weeks, providing them with agricultural training including guidance on tobacco seedling production, instruction in sowing techniques, and transplanting schedule estimation

Through the Growers Management System (GMS), we monitor farm environments, labor conditions, and living situations of contracted farmers in Brazil to fully respect their welfare and human rights

In 2023, CBT officially joined the Sustainable Tobacco Program (STP) to drive the optimization and upgrading of our green agricultural supply chain

Greenhouse Gas Emissions Across the Supply Chain

In response to the new climate disclosure requirements of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange and to further enhance overall supply chain transparency, we conducted our first-ever statistical assessment and accounting of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions across the three scopes defined by the international accounting tool, the Greenhouse Gas Protocol, in 2023 through an external measurement agency. We also compiled a Greenhouse Gas Emissions Inventory. By conducting carbon audits across various supply chain segments, we can identify emission hotspots and develop targeted mitigation measures to improve supply chain sustainability. Additionally, preparing the Greenhouse Gas Emissions Inventory helps us pinpoint high-emission or high-risk suppliers, enabling us to optimize our supply chain structure and reduce environmental and operational risks. The GHG emission sources we have identified are illustrated in the figure below.
